INDIANAPOLIS - One of the reasons fashion is important to me is how community-based it can be. I gave up a long time ago (like in the 1980s, y’all) worrying about whether or not someone was stealing my fresh styles.
Fashion is not only a visual way to express who you are, but to share your personality with the rest of the world, contributing your ideas to the collective.
One way to make that happen on a larger scale is writing and visually documenting your looks through a social network or personal blog.
Two blogs to bookmark
Frocks and Frou Frou is a fantastic blog written by Lilli. Her posts are fearless, setting forth an example that is encouraging for women of all sizes. With daily updates, Lilli manages to create a fashion blog that is accessible as well as informative.
Bold florals and trendy outfits fill her reviews, outfit suggestions and personal posts. Lilli even dares to wear horizontal stripes and pulls it off!
What I think you can take away from this delightful read is encouragement and insight to finding your own style, no matter your size.
Lilli gives kudos to Girl With Curves, and I do, too. Another image styled-site, writer Tanesha Awasthi posts amazing photos of her wardrobe on a regular basis.
What can you take away from this? Definitely some inspiration and great ideas for creating outfits. Awasthi isn’t afraid of her curvy figure, which says to me that changes happening in the upper world of fashion are finally beginning to surface for the mainstream audience.
Awasthi and her husband work together to post this simple pictorial guide. Although the blog caters to styles that look good on full-figured women, it also boasts accessories and color combos that can work for all shapes and sizes.
Grow your fashion network
Not really a blog, but more of a fashion Facebook, LookBook is visually intriguing. What better way to immerse yourself in a fashion collective that spans the globe than a fashion-forward social network?
LookBook is an online community dedicated to showcasing member-uploaded "street style" photography.
Like any other social network, you can make connections, like other people’s styles and join communities.
If you don’t have time to curate a blog but you want the added advantage of a community, create a personalized profile and begin posting your looks.
Pro-tip: Think spring. If you aren’t down with what’s in, start looking ahead at what colors are in stores and work with your own wardrobe to incorporate new styles with accessories or small changes.
Wardrobe features fashion from around the world to next door. You can find more like this at twinklevanwinkle.com.
