INDIANAPOLIS (LIN) - "I asked for a car, I got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign?"

Even though Ferris Bueller thought he was born under a bad sign, Matthew Broderick definitely was not. Born March 21, 1962 in New York City, he made his stage debut at the age of 17.  In 1983, he won a Tony Award for "Brighton Beach Memoirs." That same year he made his feature film debut in "Max Dugan Returns."

Here is a look back at some of his most memorable movie roles from the 1980s.

Max Dugan Returns (1983)
In his big screen debut, Broderick starred as Michael McPhee whose grandfather suddenly comes back into his life.

WarGames (1983)
In the same year, Broderick delivered another memorable movie turn as a young computer whiz who accidentally hacks into NORAD. "Do you want to play a game?" Broderick nabbed a Saturn Award nomination for his performance.

Ladyhawke (1985)
This fantasy film starred Broderick as a thief who helps a pair of cursed lovers, played by Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Without a doubt, this seminal '80s movie is one of Broderick's most well-known and well-loved movies. It is also the only role of his career which landed him a Golden Globe nomination.

Twenty-five years later, the performance still resonates. Honda's 2012 Super Bowl commercial was one of the most buzzed about ads from the big game.

Glory (1989)
In this film, Broderick starred as Col. Robert Gould Shaw who led the United States first all-black volunteer company into battle during the Civil War. This movie marked the beginning of more dramatic movie roles for Broderick.

So Happy 50th Birthday Matthew Broderick, and here's hoping for many more memorable moments. After all as Ferris would say, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
