BURBANK, CA - If you're a fan of "The Hunger Games", cross your fingers for a new fall series to make the cut at the CW network.

"The Selection" is one of eight pilots under consideration for the CW fall line-up, and is one of the CW's brightest hopes for next season.

Under futuristic, war-torn conditions, a young girl is chosen by lottery to compete for fame and fortune, all while surrounded by slaughter and hunger.

In the same sense that the CW's biggest hit, The Vampire Diaries, was able to gain success based off of the extreme popularity of "Twilight", the network hopes "The Hunger Games" phenomenon will also increase interest for a series like "The Selection".

Vampire Diaries writers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain both wrote and produced the new series for "The Selection". The CW plans to make a decision on adding "The Selection" to the fall line-up this spring.

HarperCollins plans to publish the first of a planned triliogy for "The Selection" on April 24, in hopes that the novels will create necessary buzz for the show to be a huge hit.

The author, Kiera Cass, who developed her ideas independently says she totally sees how the book lines up with 'The Hunger Games. She describes her book as "The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor" according to TheWrap.

So if you're a fan, pick up the book, and cross those fingers for the CW to bring some futuristic war-torn competitions to your prime-time TV in the fall!
