Quick Tip: Protect Your Skin

Updated: Friday, 02 Nov 2012, 12:45 PM EDT

It's that time of year again when snow, sleet, and blustery winds are here to stay.

The harsh elements of winter can really be damaging to skin. There are few key ways to protect your skin.

First of all, people often forget about the harmful sun rays during winter, but it's just as important to wear sunscreen in the winter as it is in the summer.

One of the best ways to protect skin when you are outside in the cold is to keep it covered. That means bundling up in coats with hoods and scarves to cover most of your face.

Hot showers are very tempting in the winter time but they can actually hurt your skin by drying it out. A lukewarm bath with oatmeal or baking soda, can help relieve skin that is so dry it has become itchy.

Finally, don't forget to have fun in the snow this winter but as soon as you get inside remove wet socks and gloves. They can be extremely irritating to skin that and potentially cause cracking and sores.
