Karissa Kelly of Clayton, Ohio, was awarded a four-year scholarship Tuesday to Wright State University by Dayton’s CW.

An aspiring teacher, Karissa’s winning essay was part of a contest addressing the theme “Changing Lives, Changing Community.”

“We are so happy to be giving back to the community through this amazing opportunity,” said Lisa Barhorst, Vice President and General Manager of WDTN-TV and Dayton’s CW, “Karissa is a bright, young girl who will impact lives and her community around her in the years to come.”

In Kelly’s winning essay, she discussed overcoming challenges and using these experiences to help change others’ lives. With the help of this scholarship, Kelly plans on obtaining a degree in education.

Thanks to Wright State University and other sponsors including Grismer Auto Services and Hochman and Plunkett, Karissa Kelly is now on her way to “Changing Lives, Changing Community.”
